President Donald Trump drastically reduces the staff of the National Security Council with layoffs and administrative leave. According to CNN, at least 100 people have been dismissed as part of the reorganisation decided by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The cuts were announced in an email sent on Friday afternoon, in which the dismissed were given 30 minutes to clear out their desks.
In short, Trump and Rubio restructured the body, halving its staff and transferring part of its powers to the state and defence departments. The reorganisation is said to have been decided in order to root out the 'deep state'. Trump intends to leave Secretary of State Rubio in office as long as possible, and appoint Andy Barker and Robert Gabriel as deputy advisers.
