Zelensky: ‘I think we’ll meet Trump again tomorrow.’ Refinery in Moscow hit
The Russian authorities have reported that a major refinery in Moscow was hit during a large-scale attack by Ukrainian drones on the capital
A meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit took place between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. This was the first face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Trump in almost four months, at a time when Kyiv is seeking to revive peace negotiations with Moscow, which are currently at a standstill.
This morning, the French President also personally welcomed Zelensky, leaving the leaders’ hotel and walking alone through the park to meet him. This was followed by a G7 working session dedicated to Ukraine, which also included the Ukrainian President.
“Russia must reach an agreement,” said Trump, speaking after meeting the Ukrainian president. “I will do everything in my power,” he added. President Trump also stated that he was ready to reimpose sanctions on Russian oil, “now that oil prices are falling’”. “We will be able to do so,” he said, “because oil is now flowing. We suspended some sanctions because, obviously, we did not want to penalise the United States, but we will soon be able to reintroduce them.”
Zelensky: ‘We need missile licences; Trump is in favour of this’
“We need licences to produce missiles.” This was stated by the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, who claimed that “all” the G7 leaders had agreed to help Ukraine strengthen its air defences. “This is truly a major challenge because production capacity is not keeping pace with our needs. Production takes place in the United States. I raised the issue of licences. I spoke to President Trump,” Zelensky told Reuters, with his comments reported on the CNN website. According to Zelensky, his request was also welcomed by the tycoon. “I hope that when President Trump is positive, it means a ‘yes’,” he explained.
Zelensky told journalists that he may have another bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump tomorrow on the sidelines of the G7 summit. This was reported by the Suspilne website. “I believe we will meet the President again tomorrow,” said Zelensky. “Our teams will meet at various levels throughout the day. There will be many important technical meetings,” he added.
