Trump posts a map on Truth showing Iceland under the US flag; Reykjavik protests
And he summons the US ambassador
Donald Trump has just sparked a new controversy with a ‘map’ covering the whole of North America – including Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Greenland and Iceland – all marked with the American flag, in a series of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Iceland was the first to react, announcing today that it had summoned the US ambassador in Reykjavik the previous day “to make it clear that this image was entirely inappropriate”.
The US President posted the controversial ‘map’ without a caption, amongst around a hundred posts on his feed over the long Labour Day weekend.
As well as Iceland, the images also show, amongst other things, the American flag covering the Canada, which is embroiled in a trade war with Washington and which Donald Trump dreams of turning into the 51st state of the United States; Greenland, a Danish autonomous territory; as well as Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, the French Antilles and other Caribbean islands.
