Trump is plotting his revenge with the appointment of the hardliner Stephen Miller
“I will never give in,” the president tells his supporters. And following the mid-term election defeat, he is starting afresh with a new chief of staff – the man behind the deportations and the violence perpetrated by ICE against immigrants
Donald Trump reassured his supporters: ‘I will never give in; I will always keep fighting for America,’ he said. And as further proof of his desire for revenge, he announced that he had chosen Stephen Miller as his new chief of staff – the architect of deportations and the violent actions of masked ICE agents, and the ideologue behind a new America that is white and free of immigrants. This appointment is an unequivocal sign of the president’s determination to keep up the fight throughout the remaining two years of his term: Miller will replace the pragmatic Susie Wiles, inevitably bringing a surge of aggression to the White House.
Meanwhile, the vote count continues in the United States, revealing an increasingly clear and dramatic turnaround. In the House of Representatives, the Democrats have wrested the majority from the Republicans and, with counting still under way in dozens of constituencies, can already count on at least 253 seats out of a total of 435, compared with 155 for the Republicans. In the Senate, where Trump’s collapse has been even more surprising, the Democrats have so far secured 54 seats, compared with 44 for the Republicans, but could win a further two seats: in Mississippi and Alaska, where until last night they were shown to have a slight lead.
The Donald vented all his frustration at the mid-term election defeat in a message to his supporters. ‘I’ll be honest. The elections didn’t go as we’d expected. But the battle for our country has never been easy,” he said. “I will never give up, I will never back down and I will never stop fighting to make America great again,” the President continued. “For the next two years, just as in my first ten, I will never give up. I will never back down. And I will always keep fighting for America,” he finally assured, before concluding with a request for a donation, starting with the symbolic sum of $20.26.
No backtracking, then, not even on the war in Iran, which – following the internal clash with Deputy JD Vance – is undermining Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth’s position. Indeed, according to Fox News – a television channel with close ties to conservatives – Trump is reportedly on the verge of ordering a new offensive against the regime in Tehran: the President is said to have discussed this at the White House during a National Security summit, going so far as to suggest launching a series of massive air raids next Monday, 9 November, taking advantage of the new moon. The economic stranglehold and sanctions imposed by the Republican administration to force Iran to surrender appear to be having little impact on the bloodthirsty regime of the ayatollahs, which is prepared to sacrifice its own people in order to resist.
Meanwhile, the diplomatic route still appears to be a long and uncertain one. Although – as reported by Bloomberg – Iran is now reportedly willing to consider Qatar’s proposals for concessions on its nuclear programme, which it has consistently rejected until now. The Emir of Qatar, Tamim Al-Thani, is said to have confided this to Trump during a lengthy telephone conversation.
