The White House is in talks with the Qatari royal family to receive a luxury Boeing 747 aircraft, intended to serve as presidential Air Force One. President Donald Trump himself confirmed this, without explicitly mentioning Qatar, on Truth Social.

In a note, according to the BBC, Qatar denied that the plane would be a gift, but confirmed that the transfer of an aircraft for 'temporary use' is being discussed between the two countries. According to CBS News, the BBC's partner in the US, the plane would be donated to Trump's presidential library at the end of his term.

Ali Al-Ansari, Qatari press attaché to the US, said that negotiations are ongoing between the Qatari Ministry of Defence and the US Department of Defence. "The matter is under consideration by the respective legal departments, and no decision has been made yet."

Yesterday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said, "Any gift from a foreign government is always accepted in full compliance with all applicable laws. President Trump's Administration is committed to maximum transparency."

Trump called the plane a gift. "The fact that the Department of Defense is getting a GIFT, FREE, of a 747 plane to temporarily replace the 40-year-old Air Force One, in a very public and transparent transaction, so annoys the corrupt Democrats who insist we pay FULL PRICE for the plane. Anyone could do that! Dems are world class losers!!! MAGA".

The current White House fleet includes two Boeing 747-200Bs customised for presidential use, equipped with special communications equipment and amenities such as a lounge, office, and conference room, according to the US Air Force. The aircraft have been in service since 1990 and 1991.

Air Force One aircraft are usually maintained by successive administrations. According to the National Archives, only the Reagan Presidential Library owns an Air Force One jet, which carried seven presidents before being donated.

Qatar is said to be offering a version of the Boeing 747-8, a much newer model that ABC News calls a real 'flying palace'.
