Trump: ‘We are ready to help Russia with the plague outbreak’
The United States is closely monitoring the possible case of pneumonic plague in Russia and says it is ready to provide medical assistance to contain the emergency
The US is ready to help Russia tackle the suspected outbreak of plague. US President Donald Trump said this whilst speaking to journalists. ‘I’m concerned; pneumonic plague is a tough one, you know? It’s a disease we used to be able to keep under control. But, somehow, the microbes have become stronger and more cunning. They’re like an army. Germs have really become stronger, and the drugs that used to work for pneumonia don’t work quite as well anymore. But we’ll help them.”
“We will help anyone facing this sort of problem. We are always willing to lend a hand. We will offer our support,” added the President, speaking to journalists before leaving the White House.
The White House is monitoring
The White House is reportedly monitoring reports of a suspected case of plague and the associated quarantines in Russia, a Trump administration official told Axios on Sunday.
Russian health authorities are reported to have taken precautionary measures following the death of a woman who worked at a plague research centre, but have not confirmed that she contracted the disease.
According to Axios, the Trump administration ‘is aware of the situation, is monitoring the outbreak and is assessing its options’.
