Trump: ‘The execution of the Fort Hood killer will not be streamed’
The decision not to broadcast the execution live online was taken even though ‘it would have served as a powerful deterrent, showing the world how America treats terrorists’, the US President pointed out on social media
The execution of the perpetrator of the Fort Hood massacre, Nidal Malik Hasan, will not be streamed live, as had previously been announced by the Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth.
This is according to Donald Trump – via social media – in a post on Truth. ‘I believe that streaming the execution live, so that everyone could see it, would have served as a powerful deterrent, showing the world how America deals with terrorists and scum like Hasan; however, many decent, well-meaning people would prefer not to see him die, either via livestream or through any other visual medium. He will die, as planned, by firing squad, but the event will not be livestreamed’, writes the US President.
He concludes his message as follows: ‘The execution may be attended in person by the victims’ closest relatives, should they so wish. They deserve to witness the triumph of justice!’
The initial decision to broadcast the man’s execution live – alongside the story of Christa Pike, who has twice survived lethal injection and is currently in hospital in Tennessee – has reignited the debate on the death penalty in the United States in recent weeks.
