Donald Trump unveils the design of the 'golden visas' which, with the payment of five million dollars, will allow those who can afford it to obtain permanent residence permits with the possibility of US citizenship for foreigners. On Air Force One bound for Mar-a-Lago, the US president presented the 'Trump card': all gold, with his image.
Trump said the gold visa will come in the next few weeks.
"We will sell a gold card," Trump had said in February from the Oval Office. "There is already a green card. This is a gold card. We're going to put a price tag on that card of about $5 million and that will give you the privileges of the green card, as well as being a pathway to citizenship. And wealthy people will come into our country by purchasing this card."
Trump suggested that millions could be sold. Asked if he would consider selling the cards to Russian oligarchs, Trump replied: 'Yes, maybe. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people'.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, standing next to Trump, had explained at the time that the card will replace the government's EB-5 immigrant investor visa programme, which allows foreign investors to put money into US projects that create jobs and then apply for visas to immigrate to the US.
