Trump is considering easing sanctions on the ‘shadow fleet’ that transports oil
The government is negotiating to ease the measures against ships carrying fuel from Russia, Iran and Venezuela
The Trump administration is considering the possibility of easing the sanctions on ships belonging to the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ that have transported oil and petroleum products from countries such as Russia, Iran and Venezuela, in an attempt to reduce global transport costs, which have reached record levels.
This is according to a US official, as reported by the international news agency Reuters. The new talks are focusing on the possibility that the US might allow the transit of ‘legal oil’ on ships previously subject to sanctions. This concerns crude oil or petroleum products not subject to sanctions, rather than Russian and Iranian oil, which are subject to punitive measures.
A move that can be seen as yet another attempt by Donald Trump to send signals to his electorate ahead of the mid-term elections scheduled for 3 November.
