Trump: 'We will build an Arch of Triumph in Washington. It will surpass the one in Paris"

Despite accusations that he cannot cope with the growing cost-of-living crisis, with health insurance premiums about to rise dramatically for more than 20 million Americans, Donald Trump has revealed that one of the priorities on his domestic policy agenda is the construction of an Arch of Triumph in Washington DC.
The announcement at a White House party
Speaking at a White House Christmas party, the president praised Vince Haley, his former speechwriter and long-time aide to Newt Gingrich, who now heads the White House Domestic Policy Council. "Vince is incredible on policy and we have a project that will be incredible," he said. "I put Vince in charge of the Arc de Triomphe," Trump continued.
"We are building an arch, like the Arc de Triomphe," the president added, mixing English and French. "We are building it near the Arlington Bridge, at Arlington Cemetery, in front of the Lincoln Memorial ... and it is something very special. It's going to be like the one in Paris,' Trump assured, referring to the Arc de Triomphe, built between 1806 and 1836 on the Champs-Élysées, in honour of those who died fighting for France during the French and Napoleonic revolutionary wars.
Trump: 'My arc will outclass Paris'
"But truth be told," Trump pointed out, the new arch to be built by Haley will be better than the one commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte. "It outclasses it. It outclasses it in every way,' he assured. But the logic of this policy initiative, as well as the new ballroom in the White House, may be really hard to understand for Americans struggling to make ends meet.
