Two more deaths in workplace accidents
The first fatality occurred at a quarry in the province of Treviso, whilst in the Lecce area a worker was struck by an electric shock
Two deaths were reported today, whilst another worker is fighting for his life. This is the tragic toll from three separate workplace accidents. During the morning, at a Super Beton quarry in Giavera del Montello, in the province of Treviso, initial investigations suggest that a worker was crushed to death by a roller, whilst his colleague, who was with him, sustained minor injuries. According to the account provided by trade unionists from Filca Cisl Belluno Treviso, the victim, Francesco Vona, aged 39, from Vittorio Veneto, was working in the quarry when he rushed to the aid of a colleague whose arm had become trapped during maintenance work on a conveyor belt. Francesco did not hesitate for a moment to come to his aid, but became trapped in the machinery himself and lost his life.
The second accident took place in the province of Lecce, where a 32-year-old worker of Moroccan origin, resident in Ivrea in Piedmont, died after being electrocuted in Montesano Salentino. He was working on an electricity pylon, installing fibre-optic cabling. The victim was an employee of an installations company based in Naples. The Carabinieri attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances of the accident, alongside the fire brigade and 118 emergency medical staff.
In the Ferrara area, a 38-year-old worker of Pakistani origin fell from a height of around eight metres whilst carrying out maintenance work on the roof of a juice-producing company in Masi Torello. The company employee was rescued and rushed by ambulance to the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna in a life-threatening condition.
