EU: MEF sources say the issue of inflation will be discussed at the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - As was the case last March, the Minister for the Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, will bring to the attention of the Eurogroup and Ecofin – which will meet in Luxembourg this coming Thursday and Friday – the issue of the serious economic consequences for public finances caused by the surge in inflation. The fact that there is no specific agenda item on ‘inflation and the expenditure rule’ does not mean that it will not be discussed, as has happened on previous occasions. Specifically, the topic will feature in the Eurogroup’s discussions under the agenda item ‘impact of energy markets on the Eurozone economy’ and at the start of Friday’s Ecofin meeting under the item ‘European economic situation at the start of Friday’s proceedings’, they explain.
