Global wealth continued to grow even amid economic uncertainty, registering a 4.6% increase in dollar terms in 2024. This is highlighted in the 2025 edition of the Global Wealth Report by UBS, which analysed 56 markets representing over 90% of the world's wealth. The Americas led this expansion, up 11.35%, while in Europe, the Middle East and Africa the increase was almost zero (+0.44%).
Italy, in this scenario, has seen the number of dollar millionaires rise to 1.3 million. A sign of the resilience of private wealth, also confirmed by the country's positive net financial position abroad, amounting to 15% of GDP. A figure above the European average, due - according to UBS - to the high level of savings of Italian households.
However, as Matteo Ramenghi, chief investment officer of UBS Global Wealth Management, reminds us, this wealth alone is not enough: to produce lasting benefits, we need greater financial awareness. In an era of rapid change and instability, wealth management is becoming increasingly complex and strategic. And it requires, according to UBS's senior management, the right skills to meet the challenges of the present and plan for the transfer of wealth to future generations.
