The body of the woman suspected of having attempted to murder the Ukrainian-born businessman Vadim Yermolayev in Munich using an explosive device. This was reported by Ukrainska Pravda, citing sources. According to the sources, Anastasiia Berezovska was shot dead.
The discovery near Kyiv
The woman’s body was discovered late in the evening of 6 July, and she is believed to have been killed by several gunshots. Investigators also report that she had been outside Ukraine from 22 March 2025 until 1 July 2026. The explosion, which took place on 29 June in the Principality of Monaco, injured three people, two of whom were in a critical condition. According to media reports, those injured include Ermolaev and some of her family members. Following the attack, a large-scale manhunt was launched for the suspect, who is believed to have planted the explosive device, as captured on CCTV. The Principality’s authorities subsequently ruled out terrorism as a motive, whilst the Monaco Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into attempted murder and the placement of an explosive device in a public place. According to earlier reports in the Ukrainian media, the investigative hypotheses also include the possible involvement of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), a circumstance that has not been officially confirmed. Ermolaev, a businessman originally from Dnipro and founder of the Alef Group, was previously ranked among Ukraine’s richest men by Forbes. In 2019, he renounced his Ukrainian citizenship and acquired Cypriot citizenship. He was also one of the key figures in the journalistic investigation ‘Monaco Battalion’, which focused on Ukrainian entrepreneurs and oligarchs who had moved to the French Riviera during the war.
Two arrested in connection with the murder
Two people are reported to have already been arrested in connection with the investigation: a serving officer of the Ukrainian General Directorate of Military Intelligence (GUR) and a former law enforcement officer. Interpol had issued an international arrest warrant for Berezovska on charges of attempted murder, placing an explosive device on a public road with criminal intent, and criminal association. The Ukrainian Security Service, also known by its local acronym SBU, has stated that an officer serving with the Ukrainian military intelligence agency has confessed to killing Berezovska with the help of the former law enforcement officer.
