Referring to the mission of the US envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Moscow, Trump explained that the visit had also served to secure the release of Stephen Hubbard, an American citizen detained in Russia. “I brought him home simply by asking Vladimir Putin to let him return. And I didn’t give anything in return, because Putin felt it was a reasonable request,” he said. When asked about possible economic deals with Moscow, including those concerning Alaskan gas and Lukoil, Trump replied: “These are deals that will go ahead sooner or later. But we will not allow such an issue to hold the oil industry to ransom.”

“I can say with certainty that Moscow, Beijing and Washington are, in principle, ready” for the trilateral meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, which is due to take place next month in China, and that “preparations have already begun”. This was stated by Kremlin adviser Yury Ushakov in comments published on the Vesti website.

Overnight, Russia attacked Ukraine with 153 attack drones, including Shahed-type drones, S8000 Banderol/Dan-T drones, Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoy drones. This was reported by the military in Kyiv. According to preliminary figures, the air defence forces shot down or neutralised 119 enemy drones. In particular, a Russian attack on Vinnytsia and the surrounding region caused damage and a partial power cut.
