The line from Brussels is not to respond to Trump’s provocations: “We do not comment on comments, of course. But I am pleased to remind you that the EU and its Member States are Ukraine’s main donors,” said a spokesperson for the European Commission at the daily press briefing. “We have provided Ukraine with over 220 billion euros. This includes 87 billion in total support to strengthen Ukraine’s military and defence capabilities, including around 5 billion from the Ukraine Support Loan, and as we discussed yesterday, and also recently at the Foreign Affairs Council, further support has also been discussed,” he added.

Meanwhile, on the conflict, it is reported that Russian attacks have caused the deaths of at least six people and left a further 56 injured across Ukraine in the last 24 hours. In Kyiv, which has been the target of continuous Russian drone attacks for over a week, 13 people were injured. Six people, including a child, are still in hospital, said the mayor, Vitali Klitschko. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 121 Shahed-type attack drones against targets across Ukraine, half of which were jet-powered models. Ukrainian air defences intercepted 103 drones and other types of munitions. Russian attacks were recorded in 15 locations, whilst debris from downed Russian drones was found in six of them, the air force added.

One person has died and three others have been injured following an attack by Russian troops on Odessa. According to the head of the military administration of the city of Odessa, Serhiy Lysakin, initially, three people were affected and were immediately given the necessary assistance. It was later reported that one had died.

According to reports, in one of the city’s neighbourhoods, residential buildings and cars have been damaged. The relevant services are working at the scene; the area is being inspected and the consequences of the attack are being documented. An operational headquarters has also been set up to provide assistance to the victims.

“A Russian drone has struck the main building of the Ukrainian Security Service on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv, opposite St Sophia’s Cathedral. All the emergency services are on the scene. All those involved will receive the necessary assistance.” This was posted on X by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who reported that he had spoken with the head of the Security Service (SBU), Oleksandr Poklad. “The drone was aimed directly at the office of the head of the Security Service located in that building,” he said. “The locations for our response have been agreed with the leadership of the Ukrainian Security Service. The right moment will be chosen to ensure concrete results,” the Ukrainian president emphasised.

Also on X, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, described the Russian attack on the headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine as “a serious escalation that requires a resolute response. Moscow launched this attack during a renewed diplomatic initiative for peace, highlighting its genuine rejection of diplomacy”. Sybiha then points out that “nearby, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, St Sophia Cathedral, has also been put at risk”. The Ukrainian minister calls on “international partners to unequivocally condemn these actions and to increase pressure on Putin’s regime” and urges UNESCO “to react decisively and to step up efforts to protect cultural heritage”.
