Orban: 'The EU drags us into war'
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has returned to attacking Europe over Ukraine. "Like the empires of the past that paralysed us, the EU has now become a war project," he reiterated during the 130th anniversary celebrations of the Maria Valeria Bridge over the Danube, alongside Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. "The leaders in Brussels openly aim to defeat Russia on the eastern front in the next decade, a strategy that requires the political, economic and strategic alignment of all EU citizens and nations," he stressed, stating that the EU demands that "every citizen, business and member state pursues this goal".

Copenhagen armoured for EU summit
Copenhagen will be armoured for the EU summit. After successive flyovers of unidentified drones near Danish civilian and military infrastructure, Denmark is preparing for the informal meeting of heads of state and government on 1 October and the European Political Community conference the following day with enhanced security measures. The German Armed Forces will also come to its aid to ensure maximum security, the German Ministry of Defence announced, pointing out that the decision by Minister Boris Pistorius and Chief of Staff Carsten Breuer is in response to a request for assistance from the Danish government to several EU countries. In the morning, Copenhagen ordered a flight ban on all civil drones for the summit week. The Bundeswehr will provide direct support against the threat of the suspicious drones, while the frigate Hamburg has already docked in Copenhagen harbour in these hours as part of the Nato Baltic Sentry mission, guarding security in the Baltic Sea. "The presence of the ship sends a clear signal of unity and security within the Alliance," a Nato spokesman told Danish broadcaster TV2.

Russia: no Russian drone in Denmark
Due to repeated suspicious incursions over Scandinavian skies, the Danish government has decided to ban all civilian drone flights across the country this week to ensure the safety of the informal EU Council in Copenhagen on 1 October. Earlier, the army had confirmed sightings of unmanned aircraft over military sites for the second night in a row. Russia has always denied being responsible for the drone and fighter incursions or planning to attack any NATO countries, but there is a growing sense among Alliance members that Moscow wants to test Europe's reaction time and prove its determination to achieve its goals in Ukraine.

Warsaw closes airspace to the south-east
Warsaw closed its airspace near two cities in the south-east, scrambled fighter jets to monitor the situation, and put its ground air defence systems on alert: systems used in recent days precisely to shoot down unidentified drones. After the raids, Zelensky spoke with Mark Rutte on the phone. In the exchange with the NATO secretary general, they also discussed how to strengthen the Purl (Priority Ukraine Needs List) programme, an initiative launched in the summer by Washington and the Atlantic Alliance to allow Europeans and Canada to buy American weapons to send to Ukraine. One Patriot system has arrived in Kiev from Israel, two more are expected to arrive soon, Zelensky reported. The Ukrainian leader also heard from Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, adding that he discussed with the latter 'the recent increase in drone incidents in Europe'.

Kiev: 12 hours of Russian bombardment
A deluge of bombs, twelve hours of raids: it was yet another nightmare night for Ukraine in the face of one of the most massive Russian attacks in recent months, which also prompted Poland to scramble its jets to protect its borders. At least four dead in Kiev and 70 wounded in various regions of the country is the provisional toll of this 'cowardly' act, denounced Volodymyr Zelensky, while Moscow claimed, as is often the case, that it had only targeted 'military targets'.
Eleven Ukrainian regions were affected by Russian raids, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko announced. In the capital, a twelve-year-old girl was found lifeless under the rubble of a residential building. Two other people killed were in a medical institution. Zelensky published photos of burning residential buildings, and Afp journalists saw rescuers using heavy machinery among the almost destroyed buildings. According to the General Staff, the Russians launched 643 drones and rockets, including cruise missiles, over eastern, central and southern Ukraine.

Zelensky: 'Over 500 drones and 40 Russian missiles over Ukraine'
The 'massive Russian attack on Ukraine lasted more than 12 hours' and involved 'almost 500 drones and more than 40 missiles' and 'by morning the Russian-Iranian Shahed were back in our skies'. This was written by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, on his Telegram channel, where he emphasised that 'this cowardly attack took place in the week of the UN General Assembly, and this is how Russia declares its real position'. And again: 'Moscow wants to continue fighting and killing and deserves only the harshest pressure in the world'. Therefore, according to the Ukrainian president, 'anyone who wants peace must support President Trump's efforts and stop any Russian import. The time for decisive action has come, and we count on a strong reaction from the US, Europe, the G7 and the G20'.

Drones, Zelensky: 'Italy could be next'.
Speaking about Russia's alleged incursions on various European countries, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had intercepted 92 drones heading towards Poland and that 'Italy could be next'. He stated this in a post on X. "I hope this doesn't happen, but I don't think Putin wants to unleash World War III and I don't think Italy is a military target," commented Vice-Premier Antonio Tajani. However, Tajani pointed out that the 'Italian air defence is able to verify what is happening and shoot down drones with threatening intentions'. For the foreign minister, 'Putin is testing the West's reactions, but the West has already shown it knows how to react', even if these from Russia seem to be 'political and not military messages', he added.
