The Kirishi oil refinery in the Russian Leningrad area was targeted by Ukrainian drones. The attack, Ukrinform's website explains, was confirmed by the commander of the Ukrainian Drone Forces, Robert Brovdi, on Telegram. The Kirishi oil refinery is located more than 800 km from the Ukrainian border and is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia. The commander explained that the refinery is among the top five in the country and specialises in the production of high-octane petrol and all types of fuel, with an annual production of 20 million tonnes. The attack took place last night and was conducted by units of the Drone Forces (14th regiment) and Special Operations Forces.
The UkrainskaPravda website published pictures of some explosions at the refinery, explaining that the Kirishi plant supplies a significant share of Russian oil needs and is a key element of the country's energy infrastructure. The governor of Leningrad Province, Alexander Drozdenko, said that three drones were shot down over the city of Kirishi, but their debris caused a fire in the plant premises. He added, however, that the fire was quickly extinguished and that there were no casualties.
Media: Kiev attack on Russian railway infrastructure
Ukraine conducted an operation to block the Russian railway link along the Orël-Kursk route. According to sources of the Main Intelligence Directorate in Kiev, quoted by Ukrinform, following the destruction of the facility, two 'Russian guards' were eliminated and another had his legs amputated. Yesterday, Russian railway employees discovered unknown mines on the Maloarkhangelsk-Glazunovka railway line. The Russians called a team of engineers from the special unit of the Russian Guard to the site. However, during the unsuccessful mine clearance, an explosion occurred, resulting in the death of two 'Russian Guards' and the injury of another.
Kiev: Russian communication centre in Sevastopol hit
The Ukrainian Navy also attacked a communication centre of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in occupied Sevastopol earlier this week, the Navy reported on 14 September. This was reported by the Kiev Independent. According to the statement, the communication centre, which is responsible for coordinating the operations of Russian Black Sea Fleet units, was located at the site of the 184th research and testing centre. The attack reportedly took place on the night of 11 September. The Navy published some photos allegedly showing the aftermath of the attack.
Sevastopol has been the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet since before the occupation of Crimea in 2014. Repeated Ukrainian attacks with naval drones, missiles and long-range drones have forced the Kremlin to reduce its naval presence on the peninsula. Ukraine destroyed several Russian vessels, including the landing ship Caesar Kunikov, the patrol ship Sergei Kotov, the missile corvette Ivanovets and several high-speed landing craft. The reduction of the Russian presence in Sevastopol comes as Ukraine intensifies drone attacks against other Black Sea Fleet bases. On 6 July, drones struck fleet facilities in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Territory, a key port east of Crimea across the Kerch Strait.
