Italian participation in military operations against Russia risks repeating the mistakes of the past. This is the warning issued by the Russian ambassador to Rome,Alexei Paramonov, who in a long post on X expressed Moscow's "dismay" at the Italian government's reaction to the "alleged" Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace. The diplomat recalled how Russia has always pursued "friendly and beneficial" relations with Italy, denying any conflictual intent.
Moscow's criticism of Italian politics
Paramonov pointed the finger at the "aggressive and anti-Russian media campaign", accusing Rome of fuelling unfounded hostilities. The ambassador evoked the words of the Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, criticising the narrative about Italy's alleged unpreparedness in the face of a Russian "offensive". For Moscow, such alarms would only serve to justify an increase in military expenditure over the next six years and Italian involvement on the NATO eastern front.
Putin in uniform at Russian-Belarusian exercises
In military uniform, at the Mill range in Nizhny Novgorod, surrounded by soldiers. Images of Vladimir Putin attending the Russian-Belarusian Zapad 2025 exercises have made the rounds of the web in a matter of minutes, further raising the level of tension on the EU's eastern border. The Russian-Belarusian exercises, deployed in 41 training camps, were followed first-hand by the Tsar. "One hundred thousand" soldiers took part in the exercises in 41 training camps, Putin stressed. Numbers denied by the state news agency Ria Novosti, according to which the manoeuvres involved 'more than 50,000 soldiers in the Russian Federation and up to 7,000 soldiers in Belarus'.
Hamburg, convictions for breach of sanctions
Meanwhile in Hamburg five defendants were sentenced to prison terms, suspended or effective, of up to four and a half years for exporting prohibited components to Russia between 2022 and 2024, often via China. The court found the defendants guilty of violations of the Foreign Trade Act and EU sanctions.
Ukrainian strategy
.Kiev has intensified drone attacks against Russian energy infrastructure. Recent targets include the Bashneft-Novoyl refinery in Ufa, the Kirishi refinery in the Leningrad region, and the Rosneft plant in Saratov. According to Reuters, the Ukrainian campaign has reduced Russian refining capacity by almost a fifth and affected strategic ports such as Ust-Luga and Primorsk, forcing Transneft to limit crude oil storage.
