Italian participation in military operations against Russia risks repeating the mistakes of the past. This is the warning issued by the Russian ambassador to Rome,Alexei Paramonov, who in a long post on X expressed Moscow's "dismay" at the Italian government's reaction to the "alleged" Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace. The diplomat recalled how Russia has always pursued "friendly and beneficial" relations with Italy, denying any conflictual intent.

Moscow's criticism of Italian politics

Paramonov pointed the finger at the "aggressive and anti-Russian media campaign", accusing Rome of fuelling unfounded hostilities. The ambassador evoked the words of the Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, criticising the narrative about Italy's alleged unpreparedness in the face of a Russian "offensive". For Moscow, such alarms would only serve to justify an increase in military expenditure over the next six years and Italian involvement on the NATO eastern front.
