Drones Ukrainian drones struck a logistics centre belonging to Ozon in the Russian region of Samara overnight, where a massive fire broke out. This is the ‘first attack’ against the Russian e-commerce giant, second only to Wildberries, whose hubs have already been targeted on several occasions. The company, according to Tass, which confirmed the incident, ‘evacuated more than 500 employees within a few minutes; however, unfortunately, there were casualties’, a statement read. Several people were injured, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev had previously reported.
The night also brought with it new Russian attacks on Ukraine. Moscow has launched 217 drones, as well as ballistic missiles and other munitions, focusing its attacks primarily on the regions of Kyiv and Odessa. In the capital, a ballistic missile struck a railway facility in the Darnytsia district, killing a railway employee. Another person died in a drone attack in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Moscow launches 217 drones
According to the report released on the morning of 22 August by the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia deployed 217 drones and decoy drones overnight, an unspecified number of Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles and Banderol loitering munitions, as well as three Kh-31P/Kh-59 air-launched missiles.
Ukrainian defences claim to have shot down or neutralised 182 drones, six Banderol drones and all three Kh-31P/Kh-59 missiles. The Air Force has recorded impacts from munitions at 41 locations and the fall of debris from intercepted aircraft at a further 12.
Media: ‘Russian drone enters Moldovan airspace’
This morning, however, a drone is reported to have violated Moldovan airspace in the context of the Russian attacks on Ukraine. This was announced by the Moldovan Ministry of Defence, as reported by the national media. The aircraft was detected at 4.07 am. According to preliminary data, it was a Shahed 138 unmanned aerial vehicle. It is likely that the drone entered Moldovan airspace from the village of Krutoyarovka, in the Odessa region of Ukraine, before crossing the state border near the village of Kaplnani, in the Stefan-Voda district.
