The raids hit Kiev and its region, as well as the regions of Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava and Sumy
Overnight, Russia struck several areas of Ukraine with 'nearly 300 drones' and '50 missiles of various types, a significant share of which were ballistic missiles': this was announced on X by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The raids hit Kiev and its region, as well as the regions of Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava and Sumy, he added. In the course of the attack one person "was killed" in the Fastiv district, while eight others, including a child, were injured, Zelensky later reported. "The main target of the attack was the energy sector," he specified.
Power cuts in six regions
Russian missile launches and drone raids overnight and this morning caused power outages in the Odessa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kiev and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry announced. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of reconstruction, the railway network was also damaged in the Donbass, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Odessa regions, but rail traffic was not interrupted.
Blasts in Lviv: woman arrested
Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced the arrest of a woman suspected of carrying out the attack that killed a policewoman in Lviv. "There is every reason to believe that the crime was committed on Russia's orders. This is not the first time the enemy has deliberately set death traps for Ukrainian law enforcement officers," he wrote on Telegram. In the night, explosions killed a 23-year-old policewoman in Lviv and caused 24 injuries. "It has been established that improvised explosive devices were detonated," the police wrote on Telegram, adding that an investigation for "terrorist acts" has been handed over to Ukrainian services.
Moscow, 'Ukrainian drones to the capital, airport restrictions'
"The Ukrainian armed forces have launched a series of drone attacks on Moscow". This was denounced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. Ria Novosti writes this, pointing out that 'in total, 25 drones attempted to attack the Moscow region. The first ones were shot down around 3pm (local time), then the attacks ceased for almost two hours. All Moscow airports have imposed temporary restrictions on aircraft landings and departures'.
Witkoff: 'New talks in the next few weeks'
US special envoy Steve Witkoff meanwhile expressed hope that a new round of talks on Ukraine could take place within the next three weeks, and that they could conclude with a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "We are confident, me and Jared (President Donald Trump's son-in-law, ed.), having presented some proposals to both sides will lead to a meeting in the next three weeks and maybe even result in a summit between Zelensky and Putin that could end in a trilateral meeting with the (US) president, ed. we'll see," Witkoff said in an interview with Fox News, also relayed by the Russian Tass news agency. "I think he doesn't want to participate in a meeting unless he thinks he can conclude this thing and get the best result," the envoy pointed out, referring to Trump.
