Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping offered to help find a solution to the situation in Ukraine during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, India. This was stated by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, according to reports in the Russian media. “During the bilateral talks, Modi and Xi asked detailed questions about a solution in Ukraine and actively offered their good offices to help find a solution. Putin welcomed their willingness to help and provided a detailed account of the situation,” Peskov added.
Meanwhile, Moscow is hoping for a new round of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States and Ukraine in the near future, according to a statement made by Peskov to the newspaper Izvestia, whilst the US President’s special envoy, Jared Kushner, stated that the main obstacle to reaching an agreement to end the war remains Ukraine’s refusal to cede the territories claimed by Vladimir Putin, according to the Ukrainian newspaper Pravda.
The possible trilateral meeting
Turkey and other countries, including the United Arab Emirates, have offered to host a new trilateral meeting between Russia, the United States and Ukraine, and it is not yet known who will host the Russian delegation: this was stated by Yuri Ushakov, adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Interfax. “Abu Dhabi has been considered as an option. We have others: the Turkish side has offered to host, as have other countries,” Ushakov told Channel One, as reported by Interfax. Responding to a question about which venue Russia would prefer, he said: “Abu Dhabi is a rather suitable venue for the talks.” At the same time, it is not yet known who will lead the Russian delegation. “I don’t know yet. The President will decide,” Ushakov clarified.
Train and service station struck on the Ukraine-Poland border
A petrol station in Yahodyn, near the border between Ukraine and Poland, was hit during a massive drone attack on Ukraine, causing a huge fire. This was stated by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andriy Sybiha, on X, whilst NextaTv published footage showing a petrol station and several lorries ablaze near the border crossing. “This is Putin’s terror, which is knocking directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. The Russian barbarians are already at your doorstep, dear partners,” writes Sybiha.
Against this backdrop, the diplomat once again urged the world not to delay and to stop Russia before it is too late. “Act now: bring the full weight of your sanctions to bear against Putin’s aggressive regime. Ensure that Moscow pays the price. No half-measures, but decisive and uncompromising action. A total trade embargo. Absolute entry bans. Comprehensive sanctions against the military-industrial complex,” the minister writes on X. “Putin must understand that his barbarism will meet with a firm response, capable of making the cost of the war unacceptable to him. It is the only way to stop him,” he concludes.
