Who does not know Sottilette or Autogrill, two brands so innovative that they have become synonymous with an entire product type? "We want to do the same with Ondine in the world of flat stone fruits, introducing a disruptive brand, able to rewrite the rules and develop the category," says Salvo Garipoli, who with Sg Marketing is in charge of the promotional-communication for Italy of this premium brand, with which the 'club' formula that has been so successful in the apple sector also arrives in the world of nectarines.

Developed by theSpanish breeder Frutaria Innovation (Samca Group), Ondine is an international project combining varietal innovation, commercial vision and brand strategy. And it is in full development. Between 2024 and 2025, marketed production globally increased by 41% to 8,500 tonnes, rising to 13,500 in 2026.

Italy plays an important role among the four European countries where this flat white-fleshed nectarine has been introduced. There are 2,200 tonnes of Ondine 'made in Italy' ready to arrive on the market in these months, either loose or in trays. And this is only the beginning, because already by 2026 volumes in Italy will have more than doubled (5,200 tonnes), bringing our country to supply 38% of production against 25% in 2025.

An escalation dictated by the entry into operation of a supply chain, which includes some important competitors in the national fruit and vegetable sector: Alegra, C.I.C.O, Greenyard and Naturitalia. Partners who have believed and invested in this project, created with the aim of qualifying the supply of stone fruit in the assortment of modern distribution and b>bringing value to the entire supply chain thanks to an innovative product, with high productivity and constant high quality standards. It is immediately recognisable by its shiny skin and deep red colour. Other features are the crisp, white flesh with a sweet-sour taste (at least 14 degrees brix) and marked freshness. And then the perfect pistil closure, which makes it last longer (even during transport) and allows a longer shef life.

All characteristics that are the result of intensive research, with 11 varieties already fielded and others in the test phase, including flat peaches destined to join the nectarines, in a path unprecedented for the market. Also innovative is the marketing positioning of Ondine as the perfect summer snack because its small size, thin skin, small stone and firm, crunchy flesh make it perfect for biting into on any occasion, even on the go. And this is precisely the concept at the heart of the 'Snack the summer' communication campaign that will accompany Ondine until the end of August.
