US: jobless claims down by 4,000 to 203,000; estimates at 208,000

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - In the United States, the number of workers claiming unemployment benefits for the first time fell by 4,000 in the week ending 22 August, to 203,000 (seasonally adjusted), according to the Department of Labour. The figure was expected to be 208,000. The figure for the previous week was revised from 206,000 to 207,000. The total number of workers receiving unemployment benefits – for the week ending 15 August, the latest for which data is available – fell by 18,000 to 1,778,000.
