UniCamillus doubles its presence in Veneto: agreement with Central Sicaf for the new university campus in Mestre
The project with Covivio’s subsidiary will create a medical sciences hub for 2,600 students, with the first phase due to be completed in 2026
UniCamillus is strengthening its presence in Veneto with the establishment of a new university campus. UniCamillus International Medical University has signed a pre-lease agreement with Central Sicaf for the use of 65 per cent of the property owned by the company and situated in Piazzale San Lorenzo Giustiniani in Mestre. The deal will lead to the creation of a university campus dedicated to medical and health sciences, expanding the university’s presence, which is already active in Rome, Venice Lido and Cefalù. According to rumours and initial market estimates, the transaction could be worth around 30 million euros, including the value of the property and future refurbishment works.
The agreement with Covivio
The lease agreement covers approximately 11,000 square metres of space, as well as a large car park, within a complex with a total area of approximately 17,000 square metres. The lease will run for 11 years, with the option to renew for a further 6 years.
The property, previously occupied by FiberCop, is to undergo a major refurbishment project led by Covivio, which holds a 51 per cent stake in Central Sicaf. The transformation involves the creation of a modern university facility equipped with spaces dedicated to teaching, research and medical simulation.
The property development
The new campus will comprise 2,300 square metres of teaching rooms, 700 square metres of laboratories equipped with advanced healthcare simulation technology, 900 square metres of administrative offices and study rooms, as well as a 250-square-metre catering area. For Central Sicaf, the agreement represents an opportunity to enhance the value of the property and ensure the continued use of the spaces following the previous tenancy. According to the CEO, Marco Bignami, the project “will contribute to the development of Mestre by providing a new social and cultural function, strengthening the educational provision in a semi-central area with good transport links”.
The handover of the premises will take place in stages: the first phase will be available by September 2026, to coincide with the start of teaching activities, whilst the project is due to be completed by the end of 2028. Once fully operational, the campus will be able to accommodate around 2,600 students at any one time. “The opening of the Mestre campus, which complements our long-standing presence at the Lido di Venezia, represents a fundamental step in UniCamillus’s development,” explained Rector Gianni Profita. “With this new campus, we are responding to the growing demand for enrolments and helping to meet the need to train new healthcare professionals in the country.”
