Unicredit: Merz, we are not standing in the way of a merger with Commerzbank
Chancellor: ‘inappropriate’ and ‘aggressive’ behaviour
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The German government is not obstructing the merger or UniCredit’s acquisition of Commerzbank, but it does not approve of the way in which the deal has been conducted. Chancellor Friedrich Merz made this statement during a press conference in Berlin. “We are not preventing this merger or this takeover, nor have we ever attempted to do so,” said Merz. “What we have always maintained is that the manner in which Commerzbank has been targeted does not meet with our approval,” clarified the Chancellor, adding: “What we can assess is the way in which all this has taken place. We considered it inappropriate and, in some respects, aggressive.”
