Alignment on the environmental, social and governance fronts between the Unifarco group - active in the research, development, production and distribution to pharmacies of cosmetics, nutraceuticals, dermatological products, medical devices, make-up and functional foods - and its partner pharmacies: is the result of a qualitative and quantitative survey addressed to customer pharmacists, with the aim of collecting an external assessment on the perceived commitment of the company to ESG; to deepen the awareness and orientation of pharmacists on sustainability issues; to understand, through their observation, the orientation of end customers on sustainability issues.

The analysis, which actively involved more than 300 pharmacies, shows a very positive perception of Unifarco's commitment to ESG, particularly with regard to training, gender equality, choice of raw materials, supplier management and biodiversity protection.

Among the priorities that emerged, more than 45% of pharmacists indicated three key areas on which they consider the group's commitment to be essential: the reduction of environmental impact, especially with regard to packaging and packaging, efficient waste management and the adoption of sustainable raw materials.

In line with the expectations of pharmacists and end customers, Unifarco confirms its concrete commitment to environmental and social sustainability through a series of measurable and transversal actions in continuous improvement.

In 2024, the company reduced its greenhouse gas emission intensity (scope 1 and 2) by 8.4 per cent compared to 2023, with an overall decrease of 24 per cent compared to 2021.

On the packaging front, it increased the use of recycled plastic by 85% and the use of recycled paper and cardboard for shipments by 25%. It also avoided 15 tonnes of glass by adopting refillable packaging.

The focus on raw materials translates into an eco-design approach: 90 per cent of the substances used in in-house production are mapped according to environmental criteria, and 7 upcycling projects have been set up to valorise waste from other supply chains.

In the area of waste, 80% of non-hazardous waste is sent for recovery, while only 4.5% of the total is sent to landfill.

In terms of water consumption, the intensity was reduced by 6%, saving 5,600 m³ thanks to recirculation systems.

The social commitment is reflected in the promotion of gender equality, with a 15% increase of women in leadership roles by 2022, and in the support of the local area, with EUR 600,000 disbursed to the community, or 5.6‰ of turnover.

Finally, Unifarco continues to invest in professional training: in 2024 it promoted more than 3,000 training initiatives, recording more than 155,000 participations by pharmacists.
