Leone in Camerun, l’appello contro i «capricci di ricchi» e il nodo della crisi anglofona
dal nostro corrispondente Alberto Magnani
Italian journalists will go on strike, Thursday 16 April, for the third time. We do not do this lightly, but we feel it is necessary to inform readers, society and politics of what is happening in our sector, which is as fundamental to democracy as it is fragile.
The contract with the publishers of Fieg to regulate the work of employed journalists expired 10 years ago, years in which the publishers enjoyed public subsidies, while our salaries were eroded by inflation. There are no rules for the use of artificial intelligence and for the fair financial recognition of the authors of content given to the over the top.
And it is even worse for the thousands of collaborators and VAT-registered colleagues who have been waiting for years for fair compensation to be determined and who therefore have incomes that are below the poverty line.
Publishers have secured labour cost cuts by resorting to contract dumping practices through the immoderate use of precarious labour.
With our daily work and sacrifices, we are the majority shareholders of many publishing companies.
