Morocco, Romania and China are the most represented nationalities
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The Uniocamere analysis also looks at the nationalities most represented within the Italian business community: the largest communities are Moroccan (53,364 business owners), Romanian (52,541) and Chinese (50,166). Together, they account for 32.4 per cent of foreign sole traders. They are followed by Albania, Bangladesh and Pakistan (20 per cent), then Egypt, Nigeria and Senegal (10.5 per cent).
Entrepreneurs of Moroccan origin are mostly
They are active in the retail sector and are found in the highest concentrations in the provinces along the Strait (Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Messina), whilst Romanians tend to work in the construction sector and are most prevalent in Viterbo, Turin and Cremona. Finally, Chinese entrepreneurs, who are largely specialised in manufacturing and leisure services, are found in record numbers in Prato, where they account for 67.2 per cent of foreign sole traders, and in Fermo, in the Marche region (27.3 per cent).
