Unipol posts record half-year results. Profit soars by 42 per cent

Unipol closed the first half of the year with a consolidated net profit of €1,056 million, up 42 per cent on the same period in 2025, including BPER’s contribution for the entire half-year. According to a press release, premium income totalled approximately €9 billion (+3.9% compared with the normalised figure as at 30 June 2025), with non-life insurance contributing €5 billion (+3.6%) and life insurance approximately €4.1 billion (+4.4%). The combined ratio stood at 91.8 per cent, in line with the targets set for the end of the strategic plan, whilst the solvency ratio rose during the half-year from 230 per cent to 259 per cent, with that of the insurance group improving from 279 per cent to 290 per cent.

“The improvement in financial results is due to the positive technical performance of the core insurance business, as well as the greater contribution from financial management,” explains the statement from the group chaired by Carlo Cimbri and led by Matteo Laterza.

In the first six months of 2026, in particular, direct insurance premiums, gross of reinsurance cessions, amounted to €9,016 million, up +3.9% compared with the normalised figure of €8,674 million as at 30 June 2025, with strong volumes, in particular, the Motor segment (€2,428 million, +6.0%), the non-life bancassurance channel (€346 million, +10.1%) and the Health business (€691 million, +4.1%).

It was a golden half-year in terms of financial management, with a total return of 8.1 per cent on invested assets. According to the results statement, this result was also boosted by a capital gain arising from the revaluation of the SpaceX shareholding, totalling 211 million euros, before the related tax effect.
