United strengthens scientific collaborations with Japan
New alliances with Japanese universities and centres. The focus is on neuroscience and health, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and data science, fundamental physics, quantum technologies, space research, environmental sustainability, life sciences, agri-food systems and the One Health approach
From 8 to 12 June, a delegation from the University of Turin will be in Japan for an institutional and scientific mission with some of the country's leading universities and research infrastructures. The Rector Cristina Prandi will take part in the mission from 10 June, on the occasion of the final institutional meetings and the signing of new collaboration agreements. The delegation involves the components of the University involved in research, international relations and the development of scientific strategies, with the aim of consolidating long-term partnerships and opening up new opportunities for the university community.
The programme
The programme includes appointments with the University of Osaka, Osaka Metropolitan University, Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Waseda University, University of Tsukuba, Tokyo Metropolitan University, University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, SOKENDAI - The Graduate University for Advanced Studies, as well as with leading research and innovation institutes such as KEK (Inter-University Research Institute Corporation High Energy Accelerator Research Organisation), AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), NIMS (National Institute for Materials Science) and Institute of Science Tokyo.
Consolidated collaboration
The mission is part of an already consolidated cooperation path between UniTo and the Japanese university system. The University of Turin currently has 65 cooperation agreements with 34 Japanese universities and intends to further strengthen joint research activities, double degree programmes, doctoral co-tutorships, the mobility of female students and researchers and the participation in international research and innovation networks.
The meetings will be dedicated to the consolidation of existing relationships and, above all, to the identification of new opportunities for collaboration in areas that are among the main directions of international scientific development: neuroscience and health, biotechnology, artificial intelligence and data science, fundamental physics, quantum technologies, space research, environmental sustainability, life sciences, agrifood systems and the One Health approach. Areas in which the University of Turin expresses internationally recognised expertise and in which Japanese partners have shown growing interest in recent years.
