University, open enrolment for 5,500 courses: here are the changes for freshmen

Science and digital, sustainability and artificial intelligence: freshmen enrolling at the university in the 2025/26 academic year will find a new educational landscape, with almost 200 new entries and the restyling of many existing degree courses.

In total - according to data collected by Il Sole 24 Ore directly from the universities - there are 2,550 three-year degree courses, 2,618 master's degree courses and 360 single-cycle master's degree courses on the launch pad.

An educational offering that, while remaining consistent with recent trends, reveals new priorities: a boom in the medical sciences, a hold on digital and sustainability-related courses, and the overbearing return of artificial intelligence. In the background, thenew degree classes, which reorganise the overall architecture of courses and prepare the ground for a university that is more flexible and adherent to the world of work.

Among the most significant innovations is the introduction of specific classes for Data science, Artificial intelligence, Sustainability, Cyber security and Global health. The possibilities for building interdisciplinary courses are also extended, overcoming the old constraints on 'single-discipline' classes.
