VENICE, ITALY - JULY 19: Boats of Venetians and tourists travel along the Grand Canal to St. Mark's Basin on July 19, 2025 in Venice, Italy. The Feast of the Redeemer is a Venetian festival held annually to commemorate the end of a severe plague outbreak that struck Venice between 1575 and 1577. At the behest of the then doge, a promise was made that every year, on the day the city was declared free of the scourge, a procession would be held to the new votive church. A key part of the annual celebration is the fireworks display over St. Mark's Basin. (Photo by Stefano Mazzola/Getty Images)

With the start of the new academic year, the issue of accommodation returns for students away from home. And while the studio apartment remains a favourite solution for those seeking independence and concentration, prices are not always affordable.

According to Casa.it's analysis - which analysed the prices of studio apartments for rent in September 2025 in the 20 university cities whose universities in the 2023/2024 academic year had the highest number of enrolled students who obtained their secondary school diploma in a province other than that of the university's seat - the most expensive university city in Italy to rent a studio apartment is Venice, where the average rent reached 1,404 euro per month. It is followed by Florence (1,107 euros) and Milan (1,064 euros), which complete the podium of the most expensive cities.
