Fuels: Urso calls for round-table talks with refineries to boost domestic production
"Jet fuel poses the greatest challenges"
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - “At today’s meeting, we must work together to identify what needs to be done immediately, both in Europe and in Italia, to increase domestic production, particularly of fuels such as jet fuel, where the most serious issues are currently arising.”
According to reports, this was stated by the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, at this afternoon’s meeting with the refineries at the Mimit, which was also attended by the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
“Over recent years,” added Urso, “we have preserved our refineries, whilst elsewhere in Europe they continued to close them down, as demonstrated by what happened with the ISAB refinery in Priolo and during the changes of ownership at Saras and IP. We must now tackle this emergency. We must do so immediately, showing Europe the right path: refineries are a strategic sector.”
The Minister for Enterprise and the Minister for Energy Security have convened representatives of the refining companies operating in Italia to take stock of production and the state of the sector. There are currently 10 conventional refineries operating in Italy, as well as two plants that have been converted into biorefineries (Eni’s sites at Porto Marghera and Gela). Following the model of these latter two, Eni is also proceeding with the conversion of the Livorno refinery.
