US Department of the Interior suspends ICE roadside checks

The Trump administration has ordered the suspension of most roadside checks carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the deaths of two people who were shot dead by officers. This has been reported by US media outlets.

According to the New York Times and the Washington Post, the decision was taken by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees the agency.

The measure comes the day after a 26-year-old Colombian man was shot dead in his car in Biddeford, a small town in Maine.

The victim, Joan Sebastian Guerrero, worked as a delivery driver and lived with his wife and three-year-old daughter, according to migrant rights organisations.
