Fuel prices are rising again in the US, with diesel hitting an all-time high. According to daily figures from the American Automobile Association, the national average price per gallon of petrol stood at $4.4386, up by more than 40 per cent on the $3.12 recorded on the first day of Donald Trump’s second term in the White House. Diesel, meanwhile, continues to break records and is approaching the $6.40 mark, standing at $6.3956, an increase of over 71 per cent from the $3.72 recorded on the first day of Trump’s presidency. Diesel shortages have been reported in Texas, Florida and California, where prices have reportedly peaked at $8.21 per gallon.
High fuel costs are ‘Trump’s fault’. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the president’s former ally who has become one of his fiercest critics, has no doubts about who is to blame for the high energy prices that are draining Americans’ wallets. In a video posted on social media by a petrol station in California, Taylor Greene describes diesel prices as madness. ‘Everything you buy is delivered using diesel’, and that is why prices are rising across the board, she explained. “The war in Iran must end. This situation is Trump’s fault,” he emphasised.
