The US Postal Service, Usps, has cracked down on unregulated distributors ofelectronic cigarettes who use its services for corporate shipments, Reuters has revealed. It is a blow by the Trump government to a multi-billion dollar industry that has hurt Big Tobacco sales.
Suspension letters
.Letters, made public, show that Usps wrote to the leading New York distributor Demand Vape, barring it from using its services after the New York Legal Department, which represents government and city officials in legal matters, provided evidence that its shipments violated the law.
Usps' action will benefit legality, after tobacco giants including Altria and British American Tobacco have been fighting againstunregulated electronic cigarettes for years, mainly from China.
Fighting smuggling from China
Unregulated e-cigarettes do not have the authorisation of the USFood and Drug Administration required to be sold legally in the US, the world's largest market for alternatives to smoking.
Last month, the PSU revoked a postal exception from Demand Vape after receiving evidence that the company had shipped e-cigarettes without Fda authorisation and in violation of a local flavouring ban, as evidenced by a letter sent by the PSU to the company, dated 15 July.
