USA: Biden wins Nevada Democratic primary with 90% of the vote

US President Joe Biden won the most votes in the primary election held yesterday in the state of Nevada, ahead of the 2024 presidential election, according to projections based on 71% of the vote. Biden received 90% of the vote (76,000 ballots), thus winning at least 29 delegates. This is the second event on the Democratic calendar, three days after the president won his first official victory in the race for the nomination, in the state of South Carolina. The Democratic primary was easily won by President Joe Biden against writer Marianne Williamson and a handful of lesser-known challengers. Congressman Dean Phillips of Minnesota was not on the ballot.

For Biden, this is the second landslide victory in four days after his win in the South Carolina primary. In Nevada, the AP declared Biden's victory at 5.39 a.m., based on the initial results of the vote in Washoe County, the state's second largest, which saw him ahead of the rest of the mostly unknown challengers. At that time, Biden was leading with about 89% of the vote, followed by the 'none of these candidates' option, which was far behind at 6%, and in third place by candidate Marianne Williamson at 3%.

Results from seven other counties later confirmed Biden's victory, particularly in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located and by far the most populous county in Nevada: at 7 a.m. Italian time, Biden was leading in Clark County with about 90% of the vote, a marked improvement over the 24% he received in the 2020 Democratic caucuses. Although the caucus results do not provide an exact point of comparison, Tuesday's primary results indicate that the president now enjoys a much broader base of support in Nevada than he did four years ago. In Saturday's Dem primary in South Carolina Biden had garnered about 96% of the vote.
