Used hybrid cars 2025, online searches increase
Growing percentage of drivers looking for a used hybrid car
Italia is the country where most used hybrid cars are sought. Italy tops online search
As pointed out by the Used Hybrid Car Market Observatory, looking at the request data on AutoScout24, second-hand hybrids account for 13.4% of total requests in Italia (+3.9 percentage points over 2024). Italia ranks both as the country with the highest share of hybrid car requests out of the total and the highest growth in terms of percentage points over 2024. The Netherlands is the closest country to Italia, with a share of hybrid car applications of 13.2 (+2.7 p.p. over 2024). In Belgium the share is 8.1% (+2.3 p.p. on 2024). In Austria the share is 6.2% (+1.8 p.p.), in Germany 5.7% (+1.2 p.p.). Last position among the states analysed for Luxembourg with 4.6% share and growth of just 0.3 percentage points. The Hybrid Car Market Observatory 2025 is based on an analysis of proprietary data relating to ads published on the AutoScout24 platform.
Differences between countries
As shown by the analysis, in markets such as Luxembourg, Austria and Germany, the hybrid is integrated into an offer structure already strongly oriented towards SUVs and mid- to high-end models focusing on segments D and E. The average price is steadily above EUR 40,000, with Luxembourg close to EUR 48,000. Inventory is longer than in Italia, a sign of a market that is less volume-oriented and more margin-oriented. In Italia, the search is for cheaper A and B segment models in the top positions, reflecting the market structure. The average price is lower, but still higher than for petrol or diesel cars. Looking at the average price of used cars searched online, it was EUR 31,363 in Italia in December, compared to EUR 37,510 in Germany and EUR 43,200 in Luxembourg.
