"Technical and vocational education is one of the great challenges of the future, one of the pillars of Italy's education system, we must break that prejudice according to which, sometimes in the past, it was considered a second-class education. We must realise that it no longer makes sense to distinguish between high schools and technical and vocational schools'.
This was said by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara, during the Master of Made in Italy Award.
Valditara explained that 'Aristotle and Theophrastus, when they spoke of a lyceum, also spoke of agronomy and zoology, for example. So a lyceum that dealt with the surrounding reality, not just philosophy or grammar'.
Probably, Valditara added, 'we must move towards a path that makes us talk aboutchemical, agricultural, mechatronics, textile high schools because it no longer makes sense to distinguish high schools from technical and vocational schools'.
Valditara then recalled the 4+2 reform, i.e. four years of high school plus two years in the Its Academy, and the importance of 'school being increasingly in touch with the business world.
