Two Italian schools are among the 50 finalists of the first edition of the Global Schools Prize 2026, a prestigious international award promoted by the Varkey Foundation and dedicated to the most innovative and impactful educational institutions at global level.
The two schools
The IISS 'Ettore Majorana' in Brindisi has been included among the finalists in the 'Transformation through AI' category, thanks to its consolidated commitment in the field of ethical artificial intelligence applied to education; the Liceo scientifico statale 'Alessandro Volta' in Reggio Calabria is, on the other hand, a finalist in the 'Art and Culture' category, confirming the quality of Italian education offerings also in the humanities and creative paths.
Valditara: quality and innovative capacity
"Being counted among the best experiences selected at international level is a source of great pride and testifies to the quality and innovative capacity of Italian schools," stressed the Minister for Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara. The experiences of the IISS 'Ettore Majorana' and the Liceo scientifico 'Alessandro Volta' show how it is possible to combine innovation, educational excellence and openness to the territories. I would like to invite the students involved and their school communities to the Ministry to share together this prestigious achievement, which testifies to the importance of supporting and enhancing the talent of each student and the extraordinary work of the teachers'.
