Aall 74 municipalities in Valle d'Aosta, the eight mountain communities and some thirty SMEs have signed up. The idea is to complete the feasibility studies, which also involve buildings belonging to the Autonomous Region, and look at the possible creation of Renewable Energy Communities in Valle d'Aosta.

The starting point of the whole process is the study provided by Cva to highlight the potential of Energy Communities. It was a first step addressed first to the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta and then to CELVA, the association of municipalities in Valle d'Aosta, in order to encourage an in-depth study of the subject and initiate reflection on this option. In implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Department of Economic Development, Training and Labour, the company - which counts on a park of 934 megawatts of power from hydroelectric, 54 mW, photovoltaic and wind power - has launched in recent months a consultancy service aimed at supporting the design of Energy Communities throughout the region.

The Cvd'A project, implemented in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano and the Politecnico di Torino, involved two phases. Initially, the company's interlocutors were exclusively the public administrations that would request the service and that were supported "in the collection of functional data for the calculation of the energy load profiles of potential users in order to obtain the information necessary for the pre-feasibility study of CERs". Subsequently, the analysis was also extended to include small and medium-sized enterprises and household profiles.

The objective is to arrive at the identification of potentially optimal solutions for the aggregation of different utilities to create economically and environmentally sustainable Renewable Energy Communities throughout the region. Interested municipalities have directly used the portal on the Cva website to give their adhesion to the initiative.

"We are a 100% public company that, in synergy with the regional government, has decided to make its expertise available to the Valle d'Aosta region to help it develop autonomous energy models, integrated with the environment and the communities that live there every day," comments Enrico De Girolamo, Cva's general manager. "Working for a future geared towards the conservation of natural resources and contributing to the creation of an innovative fossil fuel free regional model are objectives that are ingrained in Cva's DNA. We hope that this is just the beginning of a development path that puts citizens at the centre of a transition to distributed renewable generation.
