Before the start of the Forum for Independence in Orvieto, Roberto Vannacci responded to the President of the Senate: ‘If La Russa were to look at things from a different perspective, he would realise that Vannacci has not betrayed the principles, values and ideals to which he referred, nor has he betrayed his own electorate.’ And, he adds, ‘any alliances are formed in the run-up to the elections. We do not yet know either the date or the rules under which the elections will be held.” Then, from the event’s stage, he further clarifies the point: “We are not going to play Risiko or electoral bingo. That strategy belongs to someone else.”

The general showed the audience a video of Italo Bocchino in which he states that it would be better to lose the election than to win it with Vannacci. “This is the policy of this centre-right coalition,” he declared. “Let no one come and tell me that, if I don’t change the party’s programme to try to bring Futuro Nazionale into this centre-right alliance, I’m leaving the country in the hands of the left. They’ve already planned to leave the country in the hands of the left. We’re not the ones who planned this strategy,” he added. “The only ‘useful vote’ that can be cast in Italia is one for Futuro Nazionale.”
Vannacci reiterates his opposition to femicide
As he brought the party forum in Orvieto to a close, Vannacci reiterated his rejection of the concept of femicide: ‘The penalties will be extremely severe for those who harm women, but we cannot assume that these penalties will differ depending on the victim’s gender or the motives behind the crime’, ‘we do not need to give criminal law a Gramscian twist; we do not want to educate through criminal law’.
“No” also to “surrogacy, in which a woman is reduced to an incubator, touted by those who claim to be defenders of women”, he added.
‘Ulysses and Aeneas: examples of Mediterranean patriarchy’
The leader of Futuro Nazionale spoke of the ‘Mediterranean patriarchy’: ‘We protect our families through the Mediterranean patriarchy, which is not about oppression, possession or violence. These are deviations. Mediterranean patriarchy is about respect, duty, loyalty and devotion; it is the family model that has enabled us to prevail for two thousand years. Our ideal of man is Odysseus, who leaves his homeland to defend his country. He does not succumb to Circe’s beauty, he does not yield to her wiles, but returns to his wife; and when he arrives, he slaughters the suitors and defends his family’. And again: ‘Another example of Mediterranean patriarchy: Aeneas, the man who carries his father on his shoulders’.
