The start of the Jubilee will be accompanied by the release of 'Spera', the autobiography of Pope Francis announced on the occasion of the Frankfurt Buchmesse, with Italy as guest of honour. The book - published by Mondadori - was written with Carlo Musso, former non fiction editorial director of Piemme and Sperling & Kupfer. The book - says the publishing house - should have seen the bookshops only after Bergoglio's death, but the Pope decided to anticipate the timing and have it out for the Holy Year.
"An autobiography is our travel bag"
."The book of my life is the story of a journey of hope that I cannot imagine separated from that of my family, my people, the whole people of God. It is, on every page, in every step, also the book of those who have walked with me, of those who have gone before us, of those who will follow us," comments Pope Francis in the note that anticipates the release of the volume. "An autobiography is not our private literature, rather our travel bag. And memory is not only what we remember, but what surrounds us. It is not only about what has been, but what will be. It seems like yesterday, and instead it is tomorrow. Everything is born to blossom in an eternal spring. In the end, we will only say: I remember nothing in which You are not.
The story of his life since the early 20th century
.The account of the life of Francis begins in the early 20th century, with the narration of his Italian roots and the adventurous emigration of his ancestors to Latin America, and develops through childhood, youth, his vocational choice, and maturity, to cover the entire pontificate and the present time. Through the autobiographical account," the note underlines, "the Pope also tackles the most important and debated issues of our contemporary times with frankness, courage and prophecy, as well as the crucial nodes of his service as universal pastor of the Church. "It has been a long, intense adventure that has taken up the last six years: work on the drafting began as early as March 2019 and will be completed in the coming weeks," Musso comments. The volume, destined to be a legacy of hope for future generations, is enriched by some extraordinary photographs, including private and unpublished ones, from the Pontiff's personal possession.
