Venezuela, Trump: 'Long conversation with Rodriguez, she is great'

US President Donald Trump said he had a 'lengthy phone call' with Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodriguez, the first known contact between the two leaders since the ouster of Nicolas Maduro.

"We had a great conversation today, and she's a great person," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "We had a phone call, a long phone call. We discussed a lot of things and I think we're getting along very well with Venezuela."

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, described the phone call with Trump as 'long, productive and courteous'. "I had a long, productive and courteous telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect," Rodriguez wrote on Telegram. It was the first direct contact since Rodriguez took over from Nicolas Maduro. After the conversation, the US president had praised Rodriguez, calling her 'fantastic.
