Venezuela: ‘We retain sovereignty over our oil’ under the agreement with the US
Prime Minister Rodriguez’s remarks. On Friday, Trump announced that the United States would take control of 65 billion barrels of oil from Venezuela’s reserves
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Under the oil agreement with the US, Venezuela “retains ownership and sovereignty” over its oil. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez stated in a televised address that Venezuela retains control of its oil under the agreement reached with the United States, almost nine months after Nicolás Maduro’s capture by the US military.
"One thing must be absolutely clear: Venezuela retains ownership and sovereignty over its resources," announced Rodríguez, who is governing under intense pressure from the United States, whilst the lack of details regarding the agreement has fuelled rumours.
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced that the United States would take control of 65 billion barrels of oil from Venezuela’s reserves, in what he described as “the biggest oil deal in history”.
