The 60th edition of the Venice Art Biennale records the highest ever participation of African states. If in 2022 there were nine countries present, in 2024 the number has risen to 25. Despite the last-minute defection of Morocco, the new participations of Benin, Tanzania and Ethiopia are registered. Benin addresses the themes of feminism through the works of Moufouli Bello, Ishola Akpo and Chloé Quenum and Romuald Hazoumè, part of the artists of Jean Pigozzi's Contemporary African Art Collection, the largest private collection dedicated to contemporary African art. Ethiopia exhibits the figurative paintings inspired by German Expressionism by Tesfaye Urgessa at Saatchi Yates in London, while Senegal presents the works of Alioune Diagne, now also on show at the Templon Gallery in Paris. Finally, in its 'Factory of Seeing', Tanzania hosts Luke Mwaskisopile, Happy Robert and Haji Chilonga, represented by the Rangi Gallery in Dar es Salaam. Tracks to follow.
