Landing Venice-New York flight collides with a truck: driver injured
No injuries were reported among the 221 passengers on board the United Airlines aircraft; the crew is also well. The driver of the truck has been discharged from hospital
A Boeing 767-400 of the US airline United Airlines, arriving from Venice, crashed into a delivery truck travelling on a highway along the Newark airport near New York and hit a lamppost on the roadway. The plane then landed without any consequences for the 221 passengers and ten crew members. This was reported by the France Presse news agency.
"While on approach to land at Newark Liberty International Airport, United Airlines Flight 169 hit a lamppost on the New Jersey Turnpike around 2pm local time on Sunday 3 May," a spokesperson for the US aviation agency, the FAA, indicated, pointing out that an investigation has been opened.
The Port Authority of New York-New Jersey, which operates the port of call, reported that the aircraft also hit a truck travelling on the highway. The aircraft landed without difficulty and no one on board was injured.
The port authority indicated that 'minor' damage was found on the aircraft and that service could be resumed quickly after checks were made on the runway for debris. The driver of the truck was taken to hospital for mild injuries, but was discharged shortly afterwards.
The vice-president of the bakery company H&S Bakery, Chuck Paterakis, owner of the lorry involved in the accident, clarified in a message to Afp that the driver was 'fine' and only sustained 'minor injuries'.
