The access charge (Cda) in Venice under the new rules will be introduced: the date is Friday 18 April, and it will be applied for 54 days.

To help tourists, the municipality has set up a portal and a series of questions and answers covering the most frequent doubts: how does it work? Who has to pay and who is exempt? Are friends of residents in the historic centre required to contribute? And children, what rules must they follow?

Questions and Answers

The section also tackles one of the recurring questions: is the contribution for making money? No - the answer entrusted to a video - it is to safeguard Venice: 'If we consider the costs of putting together such a project, including the installation of turnstiles, communication and dedicated personnel, this will not fill the city's coffers'.

The online portal is used to proceed with the booking and payment of the 2025 Access Fee. The new trial for the year 2025 provides for a total of 54 days instead of the 29 in the year 2024.

It will start with a single block from 18 April to 4 May, and then continue in May (9 and 10, 11 and 16, 17,18,23,24,25 and 30,31), June (1,2 and 6,7,8 and 13,14,15 and 20,21,22 and 27,28,29) and July (4,5,6 and 11,12,13 and 18,19,20 and 25,26,27).

The contribution will be due from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m..

The sum to be paid is 5 euros for those who book by the fourth day prior to arrival and 10 euros for those who book from the third day prior to the visit.

To simplify registration, access to the portal via Spid, Cie and Cns has been introduced. Also this year, the fee will only be applied to the old city and not to the smaller islands, including Lido di Venezia (including Alberoni and Malamocco), Pellestrina, Murano, Burano, Torcello, Sant'Erasmo, Mazzorbo, Mazzorbetto, Vignole, Sant'Andrea, Certosa, San Servolo, San Clemente, and Poveglia. It is not due for those passing through Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto or the Maritime Station, without access to the old town.

At 4 p.m. on 18 April, 12,774 tickets had been registered, of which 7,173 occurred in the last three days. In relation to the categories of exempt persons, although they are required to register, out of a total of 41,006, almost 26,000 are so because they are staying in accommodation facilities within the Municipality of Venice, just over 3,000 because they are workers, whether self-employed or employees, and 1,722 because they own property but reside in another Municipality. Over 7,400 checks were carried out on QR-codes by dedicated staff.

The categories that will have to enter their digital identity, if they are not resident in Veneto, in order to register for the days of the Cda are as follows:

- athletes and accompanying persons who enter the Ancient City or other minor islands of the lagoon to take part in sport competitions recognised by CONI, its federations or sports promotion bodies;

- employees of public administrations, assignees of service accommodation in the Municipality of Venice and their registry office family members; spouse, civil partner, cohabitant, relatives or relatives-in-law up to the third degree of residence in the Ancient City or in the smaller islands of the lagoon;
- persons inviting people visiting the Old City or the smaller islands of the lagoon or people registered in the register of the temporary population in the Old City with residence in the Old City or the other smaller islands of the lagoon;
- relatives and relatives-in-law up to the first degree of kin of individuals who own property for residential use located in the Old City of the Municipality of Venice or in the other smaller islands of the lagoon and not for tourist rental.
