Veronica Yoko Plebani won the silver medal in the PTS2 triathlon, beating only the American Danz and improving on the bronze medal she won in Tokyo.
It was an immense joy: "I still can't believe it," she said at the finish, in the sumptuous setting of the Pont Alexandre III, "it was a very hard race but I learned to manage myself and I never stopped believing in this medal. In the 750 metres in the Seine I took so many punches, I couldn't see the buoys, there was very little visibility but I remained focused all the time. Especially thanks to the tuff which gave me a great boost. Along the course there were 80 of my friends, this medal is for them, they are a real shower of love. I went through some tough years, when I thought about giving up because triathlon is a very tough sport for certain disabilities and if the environment around you doesn't support you, you really struggle. But then I changed and the environment made me flourish again'.
Veronica is unstoppable but she knows that this is her last triathlon: 'I feel like something new, now I will get married again and on holiday I will evaluate the thousands of ideas I have in my head'.
